What is image converter?

An image converter changes a file's format without changing what it depicts, which is what you need when a platform rejects your upload or a WEBP will not open in an old tool. APImage's converter handles PNG, JPG and WEBP in any direction, converts several files at once, and runs entirely in the browser so nothing is uploaded.

What happens to transparency when I convert to JPG?

JPG has no alpha channel, so transparency has to become a solid colour. This tool defaults to white and lets you pick another. If you need the transparency, export PNG or WEBP instead.

Which format should I use where?

PNG for logos, screenshots, text and anything transparent. JPG for photographs where compatibility matters most. WEBP for the web, where it is meaningfully smaller than both at the same visual quality and is supported by every current browser.

Does converting reduce quality?

Converting to PNG does not. Converting to JPG or WEBP re-encodes with a lossy codec, so some detail is lost, and converting repeatedly between lossy formats compounds it. Convert once, from the best original you have.
